Sun Siyam World Shipwreck

Underwater beauty is a key motivating factor for tourists to visit the Maldives (Ministry of Tourism, 2019). The purpose of this project is to provide a different underwater experience for the resort’s guests, by creating a wreck dive site in an accessible location nearby the resort. The wreck is expected to attract marine life and provide base for corals and other organisms to grow. Overtime the wreck will be a key feature to attract more recreational divers and tourists to the area. The proposed shipwreck site is located east of Dhigurah Island, in the inner atoll lagoon. The GPS coordinate of the wreck site is Latitude 5.730585°, Longitude 73.368229°. There are no Marine Protected Areas within a 5 km radius of the proposed shipwreck site.

Fushidhiggaru Falhu Reclamation & Coastal Protection Project

The overall project involves the construction and development of Fushidhiggaru Urban Settlement. The project is divided into two Phases: Phase I involves reclamation, shore protection and basic infrastructure construction; Phase II includes more specific infrastructure, housing and industrial developments. A total of 1200 Ha is planned to be developed, of which 1000 Ha will be reclaimed as land and 200 Ha in the lagoon will be allocated for harbour and marine support facilities. The project will be designed as a climate resilient island with island reclamation elevation and the shore protection designed against future sea level rise and natural hazard risks. The project will eventually support about 200,000 residents with self-sustainable infrastructure and services. The Project Phases are further divided into stages. Each of the two Phases will have multiple stages, which will be implemented as detailed studies and funding are completed.
